ker. Using the map, walk around, get some exercise, and improve your knowledge of Prescott's pioneer history at the same time. If out-of-town friends are visiting, take them out to Citizens' with this book and introduce them to the real history of Prescott. This book also contains a collection of essays, newspaper articles, and photographs that should fascinate anyone interested in the history of the West in general, and Prescott in particular. This isn’t a complete history of Prescott, of course. Events such as the Walnut Grove Dam Disaster of 1890, the downtown steam engine explosion of 1898, and the Big Fire of 1900, are glossed over or completely ignored. I don’t mention the usual over-hyped "celebrities" associated with this town such as Buckey O’Neill or Virgil Earp because they aren't buried at Citizens'. This book is about typical life and death during Prescott's first seventy years. Some articles are sensational, others mundane, but all of them describe what people were thinking and doing in those early times. For those of you with a sensitivity for history and genealogy, interesting tidbits can be gleaned from even the most boring obituary. For the creative reader, this could be considered a book of ideas. Even if you! aren’t planning a trip to Citizens' Cemetery, you should still find Grave History thought provoking.
