has imposed on its members the obligation to attend at Mass on certain other days of the year (holy days of obligation) to commemorate the mysteries of the faith or to honour the Blessed Virgin Mary or the saints.Where a priest is not available to say Mass, the Church strongly recommends that the faithful participate in a liturgy of the word “if such a liturgy is celebrated in a parish church or other sacred place according to the prescripts of the diocesan bishop.” If no such liturgy is available, the Church expects people to devote themselves to prayer “for a suitable time.”It is not always possible to be physically present at a church to attend Mass or a liturgy of the word. Reasons such as illness, family emergencies, distance from a church, lack of transport or extreme weather may prevent a person from fulfilling their religious duties, but there should be nothing to prevent one from uniting in spirit to those who are actually present at a celebration of the Mass. The title of this book is self-explanatory. Missals do not provide a method of hearing Mass spiritually in absentia. The purpose of this book is to do so, in conjunction with an appropriate Missal or a Catholic Bible. This book caters for both authorised forms of the Latin Rite of the Roman Mass. That is, the “Ordinary” form according to the 2010 English translation of the Roman Missal, and the “Extraordinary” Latin form according to the Roman Missal approved in 1962 by Blessed Pope John XXIII (the 'Tridentine Mass'). The method of hearing Mass varies between the two forms. The book is easily navigable by an Active Table of Contents which has hyperlinks to all sections and prayers.
